Being born on an island, me and my sisters grew up by the ocean. Our coast is covered with black sand, along with tall, sharp cliffs, and heavy grey rocks. The waves like an untamed animal. Where we come from the ocean is a tolken of both life and death.
We were curious
We often heard stories about fishermen who struggled at sea, and sang songs about widows, waiting for their lost husbands to return.
We were afraid
Somedays, we would spend our time playing by the coastline - catching small fish in nets, collecting shells and stones. We had to stay close to the shore, and we had to be fully on guard.
